Good evening Charles!

All I know about this new upcoming resort, apart from it being located near the Pueblo La Estrella in Cayo Santa Maria, is that it is an intimate, adult-only, luxurious 5* hotel run by the BlueDiamond Hotel management company click here and is exclusive to Canadians via Sunwing. It is supposed to open in December, although I don't know the official date.

Here is the Royalton website!

Thanks Derek! Superb location, this close to the beach! You wouldn't (by any chance) be thinking of returning to update those photos, would you? :winkgood: :sun2:

Hola everyone!

Well, this isn't much but I decided to share these anyway. Here are a couple of photos taken from the Pueblo's tower during the construction of the Royalton CSM last February (with big thanks to my relative for sharing!). It gives a general idea of what the buildings look like and also the hotel's proximity to the beach. This intimate resort is located between the much larger HUSA hotels (formerly the Barcelo) and the Pueblo Las Estrallas.

We were recently at the Sol CSM and ran into, spoke with, some guests from this resort. All raves, though they did say some things obviously in need of some de-bugging. Additionally they told us they had gotten a very, very good price on their week there because the place is so new.

On our list for next year as a result.

We have just booked a week here Nov 28- Dec05
We were contemplating trying the new Eurostars but opted for the Royalton .
Will post pics and comments upon our return. It continues to amaze us how people complain about the 90 minute transfer from airport to hotels.
This will be our 7 th trip out , we love Cayo Santa Maria

Rosemary,

Thank you for sharing such fantastic news! We will eagerly anticipate your comments and photos of this upscale resort.

You and me both! That drive is, in my opinion, a most valuable part of the vacation into that region, to get a close-up look at the real Cuba before basking in resort luxury. But I guess that for some, it's all about the hotel and the beach, nothing else... U n s u r e

Congrats from me too, Rosemary!

We've been looking forward to a report on this hotel...especially since it's being promoted as mosr luxurious. I'm hoping that a hop-on / hop-off bus will afford me the opportunity to take a peek at it during my visit to Playa Cayo Santa Maria.

I must agree with you and Carole that the drive to cayo Santa Maria and Cayo Ensenachos is the perfect introduction to the imhabited Cuba. No more police escorts as there were in the early days of tourism to that region, as the locals have learned to walk on the side of the road, now that buses are wending their way from the airport to the Cayos. To me, a peek at three small towns is a big plus, rather than a negative.

Failing a daylight arrival, I love to cross the causeway during, or close to full moon. It gives me the feeling of floating over the ocean. :hystericalwdukv7to:

Sigh, I miss those police escorts :hap dance: . And I suspect the Cuban coppers miss the chance to flip the switch on the lights and mebbe wring their bikes out a bit.

Yes I remember our first visit to Cayo Santa Maria and being very surprised at the police escort.

Hi again Rosemary (HRL)

I recall one member saying that she felt like doing the "Queen Mother Wave" as she passed the locals. I soon learned what she meant because it did give the tourists the feeling of being "special". LOL.

My wife and I stayed at the Royalton Cayo Santa Maria for 2 weeks in February 2013. We loved it so much that we recently booked a return trip to the Royalton for another 2 weeks in Feb 2014.

We have visited the Caribbean about 15 times now (Cuba 3 times). There are other resorts we have talked about going back to, but this is the first resort we actually booked a return trip.

It is a small (100+ rooms), very quiet, adults only resort, with food that rivals the best 4.5 star non-Cuban resorts we have been to. If you are looking to relax and unwind, this is the place to go. If you are looking for a party place you will probably be disappointed (although you can party at the Memories sister resort next door).

There are no buffets, all restaurants are a-la-carte. If you want buffets, you can always go to the Memories resort. If you love lobster (and I do), it was always on the menu. There are lots of chairs available on the beach -no reserving is needed (and someone is there to set-up your chair and sweep off the sand). The resort was operating at full capacity when we were there in Feb 2013 and the beach was only 50% full at its busiest point. There is 24 hour room service if you don't want to go to the resaurant, butlers to make your restaurant reservations, and to attend to your personal preferences (different pillows, drinks stocked in your fridge, etc).

Prior to this trip, I often heard the phrase "..... by Cuban standards". That qualifier is not necessay to descibe the Royaton food/resort.

When you leave the resort at the end of your trip, the staff meets the bus with you and waves to you as you leave -nice touch!

Hope that helps.

Muchas gracias, Mark55:

Your shared impressions of the Royalton certainly does help. I'm just about drooling as I read this report since I''ve recently undergone a number of health issues and the thought of such a relaxing, intimate vacation would be just what the doctor ordered. s m i l e

The idea of "no buffets" seems to be catching on as we heard that the Iberostar Ensenachos has recently adopted this idea.. I say 'recently' because a doctor whom I just met, told me that they DID have a buffet early last year.

To be given the option of being more "private" or vi having visiting privileges at Memnories(next door), sounds like the perfect solution to the problems faced at many hotels. To have lots of nice, clean beach loungers available when the hotel is at full capacity sounds like an oxymoron.. No wonder you will return!

I cannot thank you enough for sharing your happiness with us Mark. I wonder if I may get a peek there, when I depart for Playa Cayo Santa Maria on October 4th for one week? I'd love to see it.

Keep Smilin'!

:hola: RobMark!

Here's a warm welcome to our site! I'm so glad that you registered, so that you could share your most welcome comments of this resort with us. Did it help? Oooh yes! Thank you SO much!

I like everything you described about this hotel; it is obvious how much you have enjoyed it. You make it especially appealing to go experience that resort for ourselves; it does sound like the perfect place for us. I dearly hope it is in the future for my husband and I to go spend a vacation there, but sadly not at this time.

Your valuable comments (the first of this hotel on our site) are now preserved in our permanent Cayo Santa Maria Resort Reports folder. If you have any photos to share, it would be wonderful as well.

Thank You once again! I hope you will come back to us with more comments upon returning from your next Cuba vacation. Your contribution is deeply appreciated! T h u m b U p T h u m b U p C l a p p i n g
